Parent-Facing FAQ — Curriculum Opt-Outs
Q: Can my child be excused from classroom lessons I find objectionable?
A: At The Montessori School of Englewood, students are required to participate in the full, standards-aligned academic program. Illinois law provides opt-out provisions only for certain health and human sexuality instruction. For other subjects, such as social studies or science, opt-outs are not required and are handled on a case-by-case, prospective basis only when alternatives can maintain academic integrity.
Q: What should I do if I want my child excused from a specific activity?
A: Submit a written request identifying the specific lesson or activity in advance of instruction. We will review the request in accordance with Illinois law and school policy.
Q: Will my child receive equitable instruction if they opt out?
A: Yes. If an opt-out is appropriate, we will provide an academically aligned alternative so your child continues to meet learning expectations.
Q:
Can opt-outs be offered as part of a complaint process?
A: No. Opt-outs are prospective and are not remedies for grievances or investigations.
