The Montessori School of Englewood
The Montessori School of Englewood is an open enrollment, free public school for students living within the Chicago city limits. We operate on an extended schedule (S to June) and day (8:00-3:15) schedule.
Enrollment are accepted on an ongoing basis and families will be placed on a waitlist and notified if a space becomes available. A lottery is conducted each spring to determine admissions.
We offer an alternative curricular approach to serve the diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, language, and educational backgrounds of students entering elementary school.
The Montessori School of Englewood has a mission to create a learning community where members trust one another to use our heads, hearts, and hands to commit to a life of growth and fulfillment.
WHAT IS MONTESSORI?
The Montessori pedagody, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children. The Montessori Method fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical.
When a child is given a little leeway, he will at once shout, ’I want to do it!’ But in our schools, which have an environment adapted to children’s needs, they say, ‘Help me to do it alone.’
